    Product Details

Add dimension and texture whilst creating a delicate pearly glitter on interior walls, trims, architraves or furniture.

    A History of Duchess Satin

A famous wedding gown designer asked her friend, the paint maker, to create a paint finish to replicate the elegant, shimmering fabric used to make wedding gowns.  Thankfully that paint maker was Peter Lewis, founder of Australia’s most prestigious specialty finishes line Porter’s Original Paints.  Peter began experimenting with various shimmering car paint ingredients but found them too dull as a broadwall finish.  Peter was after a specific finish and felt that in order to achieve the wonderful luster found in wedding gowns the highest grade of mica should be used.  Peter eventually began experimenting with a higher quality, more expensive, make-up grade mineral called Mica.  After a bit of research and product testing Duchess Satin was created as the world’s first metallic paint for  architectural finishing.

Add dimension and texture whilst creating a delicate pearly glitter on interior walls, trims, architraves or furniture with Duchess Satin metallic paint.

Visible brushstrokes are a characteristic of metallic and pearlescent paints. Application methods will vary results.

Duchess Satin metallic paint can be applied by brush or for a smoother result, by spray.

    SUGGESTED DUCHESS SATIN APPLICATIONS

Duchess Satin metallic paint is an interior finish. Can be applied to most suitably prepared plasterboard, plaster, wood, masonry and previously painted surfaces.

    APPLICATION techniques:

By brush – may be applied in a random brush finish, or a smooth dragged finish. For a random

brush finish, apply two coats using a “crow’s feet” brushing technique, cutting in progressively.

For a smooth dragged finish, apply paint in a vertical direction, cutting in progressively, then with

a dry brush lay off over finished work while paint is still wet to achieve an even appearance. Do

not “picture frame” a wall, cutting in should be completed progressively. Touch dry 3 hours.

Recoat in 12 hours. Allow 12 hours dry time.

By spray – Best results are achieved using a HVLP ( no.2 /3  needle) (Airless tip size.10-.12 ). When spraying paint may be thinned with water to a maximum of 5%. Two coats recommended. Touch dry 3 hours. Recoat in 12 hours. Allow 12 hours dry time.

Ragging or Pouncing Method  – Both Ragging and Pouncing techniques can be used to help ‘erase’ brush strokes and give a beautiful mother-of pearl finish.

For the first and second coats two people are needed. The first person paints on the Duchess

Satin, using a “crow’s feet” brushing technique, cutting in progressively, and the second person

follows closely behind “ragging” the paint with muslin cloth. Do not go back over completed

work. Do not stop in the middle of a wall. All work should be arranged to allow completion at a

natural division such as a corner. Touch dry 3 hours. Allow 6 hours dry time between coats.

    LIMITATIONS:

Visible application techniques (brushstrokes) are a characteristic of metallic / pearlescent paints. It is not recommended to use a roller to apply Duchess Satin metallic paint.  Using a roller will likely leave roller marks.

Loved the way it turned out! I had so much leftover after two coats that I've already picked a new wall to paint! Great quality and the color very much matched the swatch I viewed online.

I've been using this product for a few years now and love how user friendly it is for plaster touch up. Would love to, get my hands on the tints these guys use so I could fine tune my colour matching. Great product!

we applied 1 coat in one of the walls of our master bedroom. The walls were newly painted less than 1 year ago and Sydney Harbour's recommended me to do 1 coat only, for then apply the lime wash. Sydney Harbour's personnel is amazing, very responsible, professional , acknowledged and friendly!
